SD8 has now completed half of the school year. New semesters in high schools and middle schools are underway. Projects and events are happening across elementary schools such as 100s-day during which students celebrate 100 days of learning tied to numeracy, literacy, art and other activities. Students at Erickson Elementary  had a 183,920-minute read-a-thon, and at South Nelson Elementary students celebrated Black Excellence Day as a kickoff to Black History Month.

Multiple events are happening in Indigenous Education through January and February: a poster contest for the SD8 Pow Wow in spring 2026, celebration of Syilx culture and the Nsyilxcən Language and a focus on learning traditional Indigenous games at South Nelson Elementary and Homelinks

Enjoy this issue of the superintendent’s report and enjoy the gradual return of the daylight.

School will not be in session on February 13th as teachers are engaging in professional development.

I wish you a wonderful Family Day on February 16th.

Warmly,

Trish
