Applications for a spot in Wildflower Creston were open from January and closed March 1st. We are looking forward to planning for next year’s multi-age K-7 classroom!

Pink Shirt Day, BC SPCA Visits, Read-a-thon and More
ARES held a school wide assembly on Pink Shirt Day on February 22 before buddy classes gathered to brainstorm ways to demonstrate kindness. This year’s slogan “Lift Each Other Up” is about connection and how we can learn to support one another.
Several classes at ARES also enjoyed a presentation from the BC SPCA, asked questions about how wild animals are impacted by humans, and found the time to read over 100,000 minutes during the ARES Read-a-thon!

Hotdog Fundraiser, Family Dance
In February, our Be the Change group has been conducting hot dog sales to raise money to support people affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and the CLES PAC organized the first Family Dance!

This month, we have been focusing on the seven sacred teachings of LOVE. We have learned about the Eagle and how it represents love. Students have been having conversations about how to love ourselves and love others. Kindness, gentleness, co-operation, gratitude and loyalty all flow out of love.

Ski and Snowboard Team Thriving
- A huge thanks to our community!
The Salmo Secondary Ski and Snowboard team competed at the East/West Kootenay Zone Championships in Golden BC on Feb 8th to 10th. The Boys' Snowboard team placed 3rd overall and qualified for the B.C. Highschool Provincial Skiing and Snowboarding Championships at Sun Peaks Resort north of Kamloops that was held February 27 through March 1.

We had a very special time this week as Blewett Elementary focussed on themes of kindness to help celebrate Pink Shirt Day. Our assembly was awash in a sea of pink shirts worn by every student.

Indoor Track Meet
Trafalgar spent a fantastic afternoon at our indoor track meet for grade 6 and 7 students. Students were grouped into 6 teams and ran through a series of fun and noisy challenges.

Fundraising for Charity, Basketball, Scholarships and ATLAS Registration
Thank you to the Rec Leadership class and other LVR volunteers for being involved in the Coldest Night of the Year in Nelson on February 25 in support of raising money for local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.
Thank you also to those who have supported our Junior Boys' Basketball team's trip to Langley for provincials last week and our Physics Olympics team who is currently at UBC!

February Learning Highlights
February is Black History month. Each morning during our morning announcements, we learned about an influential person in Black History. Our librarian Ms. Griffiths and our clerical staff Sharon Block displayed our collection of books related to anti-racism and Black History for teachers and students to explore and access.

Pink Shirt Day was a huge success and it was great to see a sea of pink roaming through the halls. Thanks to all classroom teachers for educating our students about the importance of this day.

Woodworking 9 to 12 class with Mr. Shaw has been busy exploring the design and build cycle with new and returning students to the program. The next project and design challenge is a bat house!
